  • Taiji Seminar: An Invitation into Tradition: Is Unity Optional?

Warming Up with Daoyin Yang Sheng Gong
Each session will begin with 30 minutes of Daoyin, a practice of mindful movement to prepare the body and mind.

    Key Practice Sessions Include:

    • Yang Jizhou's Nine-Section Brocade
    • Qinghua Eight-Section Brocade
    • The Twelve Daoyin Longevity Exercises of Xiāngū Dòng

    Main Seminar Topics:

    1. Why and How to Correct Taijiquan Postures
In this seminar, we will focus on the essential adjustments needed to correct and refine Taijiquan postures, ensuring they align with internal principles for optimal effectiveness.
    2. Proprioception and Taijiquan: Understanding Function Beyond Posture
Simply knowing the posture is not enough; without understanding its function, proprioception in Taijiquan can become irrelevant. We will delve into the importance of function and how it drives the true potential of each movement.
    3. Exploring the Connection Between Internal and External Movement
Discover how internal power and external movement (structure) are intertwined. Learn how to generate and issue whole-body, complete Taiji power within each posture.
    4. Fa Li vs. Fa Jing: Understanding the Difference
We will clarify the difference between Fa Li and Fa Jing (the manifestation of power), exploring the common misunderstandings that have led to confusion over time. By understanding these concepts clearly, you will learn to harness power more effectively in your practice.

    What to Expect:

    • This is a practical and functional seminar, aiming to demystify the often-overcomplicated cultural metaphors and analogies in Taijiquan. While these metaphors are rich in imagery, they can sometimes obscure the true essence of the art, making it harder to grasp its intended meaning.
    • All Levels Welcome: Whether you're a beginner or advanced practitioner, this seminar is accessible to all. The focus will be on universal principles rather than specific styles, so the content is relevant to everyone.
    • Physical Strength Not Required: The seminar is not based on physical strength or age, making it open to all practitioners, regardless of their level of fitness or experience. There will be partner work to help each other experience and practice but will be controlled and in no way confrontational or accessive only interactive.
    • Hands-On Learning: We will explore various postures throughout the seminar. Students will have the opportunity to suggest postures they wish to understand better, regardless of style or specific form. The aim is to not just analyze the external application but to uncover how to generate and issue power from within each posture.

    Seminar Format:

The seminar will be held in a relaxed and informal environment. We encourage an open and collaborative atmosphere where everyone can participate, ask questions, and deepen their understanding. This is a chance to truly embody Taijiquan, moving beyond theory and into direct application.

We look forward to seeing you there and exploring these powerful principles together.
