These notes from the Daoyin Centre, Beijing Sports University could be of interest to those wishing to enter the grading system developed in the last five years in China. The Duan system applies to all Chinese Wushu Systems. The notes are in the usual Chinglish translation that we get from their institutions and I have not attempted to correct them.

(1) THE PURPOSE OF DUAN SYSTEM
Daoyin Yangsheng Gong has been propagated all over the world since it was born on 1970s; now it takes the fancy of international friends. To promote the healthy development of DYYSG, to improve the exercises, skill theory level and self cultivation, we hereby formulate the Duan System of DYYSG.
(2) REQUIREMENTS OF CHARITABLE AND PIOUS DEEDS
Observe the law and discipline, be of noble character, be honest and upright, respect teachers and be conscientious, throw yourself into the development of DYYSG.
(3) STANDARD OF DUANS
The Duan System of DYYSG is divided into nine Duan levels. The first to third Duan are primary level; fourth to sixth Duan are middle level; seventh to ninth Duan are senior level.
The following are specific requirements of each Duan:
1st Duan: Master a set of exercises, pass the examination.
2nd Duan: Master two sets of exercise, pass the examination.
3rd Duan: Master three sets of exercise including one set of apparatus, pass the examination.
4th Duan: Master 1) Shuxin Pingxue Gong, 2) Yiqi Yangfei Gong, 3) Hewei Jianpi Gong, 4) Yangsheng Taiji Bang and its theory, gain good marks in examinations. Have over 3 years practicing experience.
5th Duan: Master 1) Shujin Zhuang Gong, 2) Jiujiu Huantong Gong, 3) Daoyin Baoyin Gong, 4) Yangsheng Shan and its theory, gain good marks in examinations. Have over five years practicing experience.
6th Duan: Master 1) Sishi Jiushi Dong Gong, 2) Yuzhen Buyuan Gong, 3) Yangsheg Taiji Palm, 4) Yangsheng Taiji Jian, and its theory, good marks in examinations. Have over 8 years practicing experience.
7th Duan: Master 1) All the exercises required in 4th to 6th Duan and theories, 2) Yangsheng Taiji Palm (2) , have excellent marks in examinations. Contribute to the development of DYYSG. Have proper notability in the world of DYYSG and have over 10 years practicing experience.
8th Duan: Master 1) All the exercises required in 5th to 7th Duan and theories, 2) Yangsheng Taiji Palm, 3) , excellent marks in examinations. Contribute greatly to the development of DYYSG. Have fairly high prestige in the world of DYYSG and have over 15 years practicing experience.
9th Duan: Master the system of DYYSG. Be outstanding at benefaction, skills and theories, be of high prestige and have a brilliant contribution to DYYSG and have over 20 years practicing experience.
(4) EXAMINATION METHOD
1) Evaluating Gong Moral
Apply voluntarily, signed and sealed by administrative authority concerned of the location where applicant lives and approved by Beijing Sports University's, DYYSG System Assessment Group.
2) Examination of Skills
Examiners adopt A) a 10 point system, B) a specific points system.
a. Thought concentrated, full of spirit and energy. Award: TWO POINTS.
b. Breathe smoothly, harmoniously and naturally. Award: TWO POINTS.
c. Act correctly, adjust breath, body and mind harmoniously. Award: SIX POINTS.
3) Examination in theories
Adopt written and oral examination according to different conditions.
(5) REQUIREMENTS TO APPLICANTS
Referred to the interim procedures of DYYSG Duan System.
(6) APPLICATION METHODS
Fill in the application form for DYYSG. Applicants can apply 1st to 3rd Duan in Beijing Sports University at all times, and can also be tested and approved by domestic exercise with Senior Duan, then report to Beijing Sports University to make endorsement and award certificate.
Applying middle or senior Duan recommendation and must be approved and sealed by administrative authority concerned of the location where the applicant lives. Finally be tested and approved by DYYSG Duan System Examination Committee of Beijing Sports University.
Notes
A. The certificates of every Duan will be awarded by Beijing Sports University.
B. The Duan System will be put into practice in August 2006, and the power of interpretation belongs to Daoyin Yangsheng Gong Duan System Examination Committee of Beijing Sports University.
C. Applicants of 1st to 3rd Duan should pay US$100 as the certificate fee. Applicant of 4th to 6th Duan should pay US$200 as the certificate fee. Applicant of 8th to 9th Duan should pay US$300 as the certificate fee.
Before we travel to China in 2010 we will issue the necessary application form. It's quite simple: you will require a passport photograph, one section deals with your personal details including your training background and some information from the recommending body (Longfei).
