China Tour 2010: 27 March - 10 April

Yangtze river cruise

I anticipate this trip to be well attended so please secure a place early (some have already done so) with a deposit. This will be a unique one-off trip, taking in the three-day cruise on the Yangtze river through the Three Gorges. On my previous trip we boarded late afternoon and sailed in the early morning. After river cruising for three days we disembarked on the fourth morning at Chongqing.

In 2010 we will embark at the town of Yichang. Your cruise boat will pass through Xiling Gorge (known for its serene beauty) and the Three Gorges Dam, Five Stage Ship Lock. There is more information in my report on the trip in, Issue 3 Volume 7. We will fly from Chongqing to Beijing for the remainder of the 14 days.

At this early stage of planning it is not possible to supply greater detail of the trip or indeed a costing. There are a number of options to be examined, (1) whether to fly to Shanghai or Beijing, (2) should it be necessary to stay overnight in Shanghai/Beijing before flying to Yichang. Until we are able to supply a clear itinerary, flight details and a costing, deposits will be refundable. It is a tribute to these trips that enthusiasts are booking without any information of the content. We can say for sure that the package will include two internal flights. Beijing/Shanghai to Yichang - Chongqing to Beijing also external flights London to Beijing/Shanghai and Beijing to London.

The Beijing end of the China Tour 2010

We can be a little clearer about the content for our Beijing stay. Professor Zhang Guande has invited, through the offices of Longfei, the opportunity for 15 students to study with him at the University of Physical Education. I have put the number at 15 to meet the costs and therefore make the proposition viable. The proposition is that, after three days' study with him an assessment can be taken in the University at the Daoyin Centre.

Daoyin Yangsheng Gong: Duan assessment

The assessment will be to grade delegates to Duan Level 4 (there are 9 Duan levels in the Daoyin Yangsheng Gong systems). I feel this is a great opportunity for those of you already teaching Daoyin, and those who wish to do so in the future.

The assessment is granted by the university and the opportunity for this experience with Prof Zhang is invaluable. At the time of writing it is not possible to detail where in the schedule this training will take place or how the hours of training will be applied. We will be staying as usual at the Friendship Hotel with the rest of our party and travel by coach to the University of Physical Education on a daily basis (the number of delegates taking this assessment is not limited to 15 it only represents the minimum number to make it financially practical, the more the merrier). Gaining this assessment will make you quite unique practitioners in Great Britain. Simon and I will be traveling to Beijing over Easter 2009 when we hope to finalise these arrangements.

Training in Beijing with Professor Li Deyin: for those travelling, but not attending the University of Physical Education

This article is being prepared in August for publication in December and the training programme has not yet been decided. If you reserve a provisional place for the trip, do not hesitate in stating your preference for the training programme. If there is a clear preference among you delegates we can certainly cater for it. The possibilities are considerable: 24 Taijiquan, 32 Taiji Jian, 42 Competition Routine, 42 Taiji Jian, 88 Yang style, 56 Yang style Jian, Yang style Dao, Sun style, Chen style. We will always include some pushing hands training.

All reservations to be sent to Karen Watson by January 2009 secured with a deposit of £200 returnable if you do not agree with the final programme, itinerary and costing. An outline of the projected programme should be available by June 2009 and dispatched to all those with provisional bookings. 50% of the total cost will be due in September 2009 when we book the flights. This 50% will be non returnable after the flights are booked - unless you can find a suitable replacement and the change is acceptable to the airline. Please bear in mind we are not a travel agent. Please pay funds on time and when due.

A great deal of work by Karen and Tary is required to make these trips a success and we appreciate your consideration. I am sure this adventure will be a great success.
