Master Wang Yanji made his autumn pilgrimage to Codicote from 3 to 5 November for five sessions of xingyi quan and bagua zhang. The first workshop on Friday evening focussed on xingyi from the Henan School. Emphasis was placed on the development of power and technique. We also reviewed our training from previous years and new material consisted of four animal forms from this lesser known form of xingyi. These included the Dragon, Horse, Tiger and Chicken. Although xingyi attracts a limited audience, they are generally committed martial students and xingyi is not for the faint hearted.
The weekend consisted of four sessions of bagua a.m. and p.m. The Cheng Style syllabus of bagua was systematically reviewed from past training. The new material included the "Final Palm Change" from "Sun Zhi Jun's "Eight Mother Palms". We also spent a lot of time on refinement of detail and application. This was a throughly rewarding weekend.
A total of 48 delegates attended over the two days (15/16 per workshop) not exactly a financial success but brilliant for the devotees. Next year's autumn visit will be by invitation only as it will be very difficult for any beginner to keep abreast of the current level.
