Longfei Coaching Course

The early autumn workshop with Chris Elleker (BCCMA Coach Education Officer) was a great success with an attendance of 28 delegates. All the delegates were issued with course notes and a CD for future reference. There were lecture modules, lesson plans with full participation of all attendees, incorporating meditation, warming up, basic exercises, combination techniques, application technique, cool down, feedback and discussion. Important features included current legislation, health and safety procedures, child abuse, insurance matters etc. Chris Elleker was able to clearly answer every question put to him. In addition to his expert knowledge on coaching ethics he is a skilled athlete in wushu/kungfu and taijiquan.

In the Code of Ethics guidelines it states: "Coaches have a Duty of Care towards any individual or groups of individuals that wish to participate in the sport". There are 15 directives in the code and number 11 states: "coaches should hold recognised coaching qualifications and respect that the gaining of coaching qualifications is an ongoing commitment to maintain up-to-date practices and procedures". Next year we will be presenting two modules from level three coaching course, Nutrition and Physical Training Fitness (the two modules require a full weekend). BCCMA courses are under the guidance of the British Sports Council. If your instructor is attending these courses you can be sure he is on the taiji ball!
