These championships were held in October 2006 in Zheng Zho City, Henan Province, China. Altogether, 2000 athletes took part representing 65 countries from many continents including Australasia, Africa, South America and Europe. China was represented by a squad from every province in the country.
Jack Cunningham (pictured with Master Wang) from Derek Daly's school "Traditional Scottish Wushu" competed under the banner of "Longfei Sweden". Master Wang was Team Leader and Team Coach. His team included Swedish members and Jack who won eight medals. Jack won a silver medal in the male category for Xingyi Quan and a bronze for San Cai Jian (xingyi sword). Congratulations Jack and well done Master Wang.
The stunning Olympic style opening ceremony was held in the Zheng Zho City stadium, with an enthusiastic 40,000 plus audience. It included local and international dignitaries, members of the International Olympic Committee and many Asian pop stars.

This success indicates how seriously colleagues like Jack Cunningham have taken Prof Li's and Master Wang's previous seminars and visits to the UK. Derek's students have enjoyed many medal successes in the UK and British competitions in the past and they must be delighted to see Longfei school score on the International stage.Richard Watson
The North Regional British Championships were held in November, the venue was Coventry. Our own Barry McGinlay won the gold medal in the under 70kg category for the Pushing Hands Competition and a silver medal in the Quinda under 65kg category (semi contact). Well done Barry!!
