Dao Yin Yang Shen Gong

Characteristics

Doayin Yang Sheng Gong involves many principles and characteristics. In the next few issues of the newsletter I will explain some of these. I will also cover some of the cultural references that this wonderful system of ancient Chinese exercise and self cultivation has to offer.

I. Yi Shou Dantian

Bring the attention to the dantian, to balance the mind and calm the heart. Bringing energy to the area of the dantian helps with the stimulation of blood circulation in the abdomen which allows for the following:

Stimulates the function and action of the stomach and intestines, thus aiding digestion and the assimilation of food in order to reinforce the bodys central energy Zhong Qi and to invigorate original energy Yuan Qi.

Eliminates abnormal and scattered emotions to reduce inappropriate emotion and reactions, to reduce over activity of the brain; to regulate the central nervous system for prevention, care and maintenance of general health.

2. Dong Xi Jie He

Combine action of the body with breathing.

The movements are slow and gentle, the breathing is deep and long. It is neccessary to combine abdominal breathing which is:

1. Fine
2. Natural
3. Deep
4. Long with slow and gentle movements

Todays research shows that abdominal breathing can provide an effective internal massage for the stomach, spleen, liver, intestines and therefore increases the capacity of intestinal peristalsis and helps to push the bolus towards the anus. Abdominal breathing also helps to:

Stimulate and secret the digestive fluids
Eliminate stagnant blood in the liver
Increase the secretion of bile
Humidify the stools
Consolidate the abdominal ligaments
