Letter from the Chairman

Well, what a year it has been to date (3rd week in May)!

Dao Yin Yang Sheng Gong with Mark Atkinson: In February we got off to a good start with our annual visit from Mark Atkinson. Subjects covered were Professor Zhang Guande's "Ba Duan Jin" (Eight Brocades), "Yu Zhen Bu Yuan Gong" (New Kidney Set), "Ning Shen Lian Yi Tiao Xin Gong Zhan Shi" (Calm and Concentrate the Spirit and Regulate the Heart) - wonderful assets from Professor Zhang's dao yin system. Mark has contributed an article to the newsletter about the opening of the International Institute of Dao Yin Yang Sheng Gong. The article speaks for itself; the new centre makes it unnecessary to make endless visits to China. The facility to qualify as an International DYYSG teacher has been put in place. This must be quite a unique opportunity for aspiring teachers of qigong (dao yin) as the system is recognised and acknowledged by the Chinese authorities and is practised worldwide. Contact Mark if you would like to attend the October meeting.

Simon Watson workshops

In March Simon conducted a well-attended workshop on the 24 Taijiquan. This was for advanced students and emphasised applications and correct practice of form. During the summer he will be giving workshops on the understanding of Peng, Lu, Ji and An, and pushing hands.

China Trip 2006

In April, 30 Longfei members took off to China for our second visit and Simon gives a report on this memorable trip. The feedback has been very positive and 18 people had signed up for 2008 within two weeks of arriving home. Besides visiting the capital, we made the pilgrimage to the legendary home of taiji, the Wudang Mountain, and we visited the Shaolin Temple. Plans for 2008 are afoot as I type.

Master Wang Yanji made his early summer visit to our shores visiting Glasgow, Watford, Milton Keynes, Brookmans Park and Codicote. Great stuff! More about his visit inside.

New Tai Chi DVD

At last we have Simon's DVD as you can see here... .Hopefully all our members will have one by the time this edition is published. The product was nine months overdue and has run way over budget. However, we think it is a first-class product and are optimistic about future sales.

Professor Li's return

Still to come this summer, Professor Li will be teaching xingyi in Codicote for one day on 15 July. He will be with James Drewe on 16 July teaching sword techniques. His last workshop will be for one day in Barnet on 20 August, when he will be rounding off his workshops on the 42 competition routine.

Master Wang's November visit on 3, 4 & 5 is covered in Simon's article but I make special note that Saturday will be back to basics for bagua.

This will serve the twin purpose for those who would like to revise their basics and afford the opportunity for newcomers to begin a study of this classic internal art.

Olympics 2008

I have been asked many times about China's Wushu/Taiji commitment in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. So I am including last November's communique from Ray Smith on the subject, for those of you who are interested in the latest position.
