Longfei Taijiquan Association of Great Britain

Letter from the Chairman
Longfei News Letters - Volume 3, Issue 2

In this issue there is continuity of a number of themes. We are proceeding with our short dictionary of Wushu terms. We also present more information regarding Qigong. This contribution is from Professor Zhang Titange, not to be confused with Zhang Guande the creator of Daoyin Yangsheng Gong.

The article is from his lecture to the Baidahe Institute of Qigong. In his lecture he discusses medical Qigong, the relationship between Qigong and medicine and the various forms of Qigong.

Professor Li Deyin

Professor Li Deyin's visit this year was the most successful to date. His visits began in 1990 and while the visits to Britain have importance for the family, it's gratifying to report his journeys this summer took him to Glasgow, Dudley, Southampton, Jersey, Milton Keynes, Manchester, Welwyn and the West Country. In 2001 we propose to bring him back to Hertfordshire for seminars on the 24 Taijiquan and 32 Taijijian (Sword). This will enable the many new members of Longfei to benefit from his unique quality of coaching Taijiquan.

Fifth Summer Camp

The fifth Summer Camp at Dudley was for the first time over-subscribed so please bear this in mind if you wish to attend next year in 2001. Provisional dates are published here. The format for Dudley 2001 will be the same as this year. The 24 routine, 42 competition Taijiquan and consolidation of the 97 Sun Style Taijiquan.

I would like to thank all our Longfei members for their support, with special thanks to Mark Atkinson for bringing Professor Li to Jersey for the first time. Derek Daly continues to be a staunch ally, receiving visits from Professor Li, Master Wang and making Simon welcome on his visits to Glasgow. Derek also travels down from Glasgow for our annual executive meetings in the Spring. Brilliant!!

As can be seen from the provisional Diary Dates, we try each year to alot the same weekends to our respective groups for Glasgow, Dudley, Hertfordshire and Jersey. I have mentioned programmes for Dudley and Hertfordshire but should you like a weekend training in Glasgow or Jersey please contact Derek or Mark on the numbers given.

Sun Style Taijiquan

Faye Yip (Li Hui) principle instructor of the Deyin Institute of Taijiquan presents in this issue a comprehensive article on Sun Lu-Tangs system of Taijiquan. The Li family have a close relationship with the Sun family. The Bagua Journal cites Li Yu-Lin as a senior student of Sun Lu-Tang. This family connection

continues today with Sun Lu-Tang's daughter Sun Jian Yun and our annual visitor Professor Li Deyin.

An Overview of the
Five Major Styles of Taijiquan

Also in this issue of the Newsletter is a comparison of the five major styles examined by Simon Watson. While we view the five styles as distinctive we should not lose sight of their collateral aspect. No examination of the different systems can be definitive, however this article is thought-provoking in examining similarity and differences with an emphasis on underlying core principles common to all systems.
